Staffekt — Claude Code on several computers, losing nothing
Sync for Claude Code · invite-only beta
Claude Code on several computers, exactly as you left it
Staffekt carries your projects, conversations and Claude Code sessions from laptop to desktop and back, one computer at a time: it uploads when you shut down and downloads when you start. No conflicts, no broken git repositories, everything encrypted before it leaves your computer.
The problem
Why Dropbox, Google Drive and Syncthing break Claude Code sessions
Syncing Claude Code between two computers looks easy: put the folder in the cloud and go. Then the conflicts arrive. Sync services work in real time, while you and the agent are writing, and they have no idea what a session is.
- Claude Code conversations (
.jsonlfiles) change with every message: Google Drive and Dropbox make conflicted copies and the session breaks. - Half-copied
.gitfolders become broken repositories: corrupt indexes, missing objects, "fatal: bad object". node_modules,vendorand caches travel with everything else: useless gigabytes and slow syncs.- Claude Code's login (
.credentials.json) copied to another computer logs out the first one. - Conversations are tied to the folder path: on a computer with another home folder
claude --resumecan't find them.
How it works
A relay: one computer at a time holds the baton
1 · Start
staffekt giu takes the lock and downloads only the projects that changed. Your Claude Code sessions reopen by themselves in herdr or tmux.
2 · Work
Claude Code, git, your tools: all local, at the speed of your disk. No background syncing.
3 · Shut down
staffekt spengo saves the open sessions, uploads the encrypted changes and releases the lock. The other computer finds everything.
What it does
Built for people who work with terminal agents
One computer at a time
A lock on the server: if the other computer did not upload, Staffekt tells you before you work on an old copy.
Only what changed
Every project and every conversation folder is a unit: only the ones you touched move. Seconds, not minutes.
Encrypted on your computer
Client-side encryption with a key that stays yours: the server only ever gets unreadable data.
Knows what to leave behind
The agent's login, node_modules, caches and sockets stay on each computer. ~/.ssh is excluded. Change the list any time.
Sessions come back
At startup it asks whether you work there, downloads and reopens claude --continue in every folder you left it.
Versions and recovery
Every upload is a version: go back whenever you like, and the work of a computer that was overtaken is never lost.
Your key
Only you hold the key
Your data is encrypted on your computer with a key protected by your passphrase. On first login you also get a recovery code to print or keep in your password manager. The server keeps only the encrypted key: we cannot open it.
If you lose both your passphrase and your recovery code, your data is gone for good. Nobody can get it back, not even us: that is the price of encryption that keeps us from reading it.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How do I sync Claude Code between two computers?
Install Staffekt on both and link them to your account. Before shutting down run staffekt spengo; when you start the other computer, staffekt giu downloads projects, conversations and settings. With autostart it happens by itself.
Can I continue a Claude Code conversation on another machine?
Yes. The conversations in ~/.claude/projects arrive on the other computer under the name Claude Code expects, and claude --continue or claude --resume find them. Staffekt also reopens the sessions you had open.
Why not use Dropbox or Google Drive for ~/.claude?
Because they sync files that change all the time, in real time: conflicted conversations, a copied login that logs the other computer out, useless caches. Staffekt works when the session is closed and knows what to leave out.
Is Syncthing safe for git repositories?
Syncthing is great for documents, but a git repository open on two computers can end up with half-copied objects and indexes. With Staffekt only one computer at a time holds the lock, so the repository is never written from two sides.
What happens if I forget my passphrase?
You use the recovery code you saved at first login and choose a new one. If you lose both your passphrase and your recovery code, your data is gone for good. Nobody can get it back, not even us: that is the price of encryption that keeps us from reading it.
Where is my data?
On servers in the European Union, already encrypted by your computer: the server holds only unreadable blocks and your encrypted key.
Does it work with Codex, Gemini CLI or Aider?
Today Staffekt is built for Claude Code. Other terminal agents are planned.
Which systems does it run on?
Linux, today. macOS and Windows (WSL) will come after the beta.
How much does it cost?
Prices are not set yet: beta users will hear about them before any charge.
